A geodesic glamping dome is a 5/8-sphere structure made of a galvanized steel frame covered with a heavy-duty PVC membrane. The Dome Shop domes use hot-galvanized 32×1.5 mm steel poles and an 850 g/m² double PVC-polyester cover, combining the strength of permanent architecture with the freedom of a relocatable structure — ideal for glamping, living, events and bio domes.

The Dome Shop offers nine sizes, from 4 m to 12 m in diameter: 4M (12 m²), 5M (20 m², 3.1 m high), 6M (30 m², 3.6 m), 7M (40 m², 4.2 m), 8M (50 m², 5.0 m), 9M (64 m², 5.6 m), 10M (78 m²), 11M (95 m²) and 12M (112 m², 6.0 m high).

For a glamping suite for two, a 5M or 6M dome (20–30 m²) is the most popular choice. Families and full-time living usually start at 7M–8M (40–50 m²). For yoga studios, restaurants or events, the 10M–12M range hosts large groups — a 12M dome offers 112 m², enough for around 35 yoga mats or 50 seated guests.

The frame is hot-galvanized steel tube, 32×1.5 mm, with a white powder-coated finish. The cover is a double PVC-polyester tarp of 850 g/m² — 100% waterproof, anti-UV, flame-retardant and anti-mould. Doors are aluminium with transparent glass and a lock.

The PVC membrane lasts 7–10 years and the galvanized steel structure 15–20 years with basic care. Because the cover is replaceable, the dome's working life can be extended well beyond the first membrane.

A glamping dome is an engineered steel structure rated for year-round use — 100 km/h winds, −30 °C to +70 °C — with insulation, real doors and panoramic glazing. A tent is a light seasonal shelter. Domes behave like a small building that you can still dismantle and relocate.

Yes. The materials are rated for continuous use from −30 °C to +70 °C, so the same dome works in alpine winters and Mediterranean summers.

Yes, with the right setup. The Dome Shop offers two insulation options — a 6 mm polyester liner, or a 10 mm polyester layer with air bubbles and aluminium foil — and the dome shape itself minimises heat-losing surface area. Combined with a stove or electric heating, domes stay comfortable through full winters.

Yes. The anti-UV cover reflects solar radiation, and the triangular velcro windows with mosquito nets create cross-ventilation. In hot climates, choosing a light cover colour (white or cream) and adding the insulated liner keeps the interior noticeably cooler.

Completely. The 850 g/m² double PVC-polyester membrane is 100% waterproof, plus anti-UV, flame-retardant and anti-mould. Rain simply runs off the spherical surface — there are no flat roofs or seams where water can pool.

The spherical geometry sheds snow naturally and distributes loads through the whole triangulated frame, which is why geodesic domes are a proven choice in mountain and ski resorts. For heavy-snow regions, tell our designers your location so the anchoring and setup can be specified accordingly.

Ventilate and insulate. The triangular windows with mosquito nets allow permanent airflow, and the insulated liner keeps interior surfaces warmer, which prevents moisture from condensing on the cover. A small extractor or dehumidifier adds margin in cold, humid climates.

Domes anchor with metal plates to three surfaces: bare ground, a wooden deck, or a concrete pad. A raised wooden platform is the most popular choice for glamping, keeping the floor dry and level without permanent groundworks.

Days, not weeks. The frame bolts together from numbered poles and the cover tensions over it — a small team assembles a typical glamping dome in a few days. Every dome ships with assembly instructions, and our designers can guide your crew remotely.

Self-assembly is realistic for most sizes with two to four people and standard tools — no crane required. For larger domes (10M–12M) or commercial sites, professional installation support is available; contact our designers via WhatsApp to plan it.

It depends on your municipality and intended use. In Portugal each Câmara Municipal applies its own PDM (Plano Diretor Municipal): some classify domes as removable/mobile structures, others as buildings, and licensed tourist operations have additional requirements. Talk to your local Câmara early — and our team can share its experience from projects across the Algarve.

Yes — that is one of its biggest advantages. The dome dismantles into poles, hardware and the folded cover, transports in a small van or trailer, and re-assembles on a new site. Glamping operators use this to relocate or reconfigure their sites between seasons.

Yes. The anchoring plates are designed for wood as well as concrete and packed ground. An elevated deck slightly larger than the dome diameter is the classic glamping setup — it levels sloped terrain and doubles as a terrace.

The cover comes in White, Cream, Beige or Army Green; the steel structure in White powder-coat or raw galvanized metal. Light colours maximise interior brightness; Army Green blends the dome into natural surroundings.

Four levels: no panoramic window, a 1/3 transparent front, a 1/2 transparent front, or a fully transparent dome. The panoramic section uses transparent panels over the triangular frame, giving the signature ‘sleep under the landscape’ view that makes dome glamping famous.

Aluminium-framed glass doors with a lock, in single or double-leaf versions. Smaller domes (4M–10M) use a single door; 11M and 12M domes come with a double door as standard.

Two factory options: a 6 mm polyester liner, or a 10 mm polyester layer combined with air bubbles and aluminium foil for full four-season performance. Both install on the inside of the frame and remain hidden behind the inner canvas.

Yes — triangular windows with velcro closures and mosquito nets are built into the cover, positioned for cross-ventilation. Combined with the door and optional skylight, they keep fresh air moving without letting insects in.
